Highlights

  • One of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world, founded in the early IV century AD at the foot of Moses Mountain, a mountain on top of which, according to tradition, Moses received 10 commandments. For centuries, due to its isolation, the monastery has been an oasis of peace, with an aura of mystery and holiness that has always surrounded it. It is believed that the monastery was founded on the site, Neoplamteće kupine, a bush from where the Lord personally addressed Moses in the first place. Departure from Sharm el Sheikh in the morning. A bus ride along the Sinai Desert to the monastery, about 200 km to the north. The visit includes the Ossuary, the Church of St. Catherine, the Gallery with one of the oldest icons of Jesus Christ, the old Bible and holy manuscripts, the first Serbian prayer book and many other exhibits of inestimable value, a tour of the Flaming Blackberry and Moses' Well. After visiting the monastery, drive to the seaside town of Dahab, where lunch was organized by the sea (drinks not included). Return to Sharm el Sheik around 5pm.
  • Note: Due to the Covid19 situation, the main church is closed and no liturgy is performed. Entrance to the gallery and museum is charged an additional $ 2, which is also a contribution to the monastery. Take a passport and a takeaway breakfast on the trip.
